In this study, the identity of “Dervish Dost Huda” and his position within the Sufi traditions of the 7th–8th centuries AH / 13th–14th centuries CE are re evaluated in the context of the transformations of the Mongol period. A comparative examination of historical sources, menâkıbnâmes (hagiographies), and tezkires (biographical anthologies) reveals that Dost i Huda was neither an independent historical figure nor a simple title within a Sufi order; rather, he represents a multilayered phenomenon that should be understood on three levels: First, as a historical nucleus connected to the Sufi networks of the Mongol era stretching from Transoxiana and Tabriz to Khorasan and Anatolia, second, as a spiritual title attributed to multiple individuals as a result of the circulation of dervishes across regions under Mongol rule, and third, as a menâkıbnâme-type construct that emerged during the Ilkhanid period, combining various “Dervish–Sultan” archetypes under a symbolic persona. This construct forms a threshold between the worldly and spiritual realms, occupying a symbolic position that enables passage between the two. An analysis of the parallels among names, roles, and geographical settings demonstrates that the epithet “Dost i Huda” appeared concurrently across the Ilkhanid world and the broader Chinggisid realm. The differences found in accounts regarding the identity and life of this figure further confirm that these narratives were formulated within the hagiographical tradition of the Mongol era—a tradition that often portrayed Sufis of aristocratic origin as ascetic seekers endowed with miraculous powers. The aim of these narratives was not to record historical data with precision but to transmit Sufi patterns and consolidate a certain spiritual identity.
